Computing
Subject Vision
At Deptford Park, we want every child to see themselves as a confident, capable digital citizen, developing curiosity, creativity and ambition as they explore technology.
Children learn to use a wide range of digital tools and devices, gaining the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world. We support pupils to become safe, responsible and thoughtful users of technology, understanding how to manage risks and how to show kindness and respect online.
Our Computing curriculum is organised around four key themes:
- Computing Systems and Networks
- Creative Media
- Data and Information
- Programming
Children revisit these themes each year, strengthening their understanding and applying skills in new contexts. This ensures progression, depth and secure understanding.
How do children learn Computing at Deptford Park?
Deptford Park follows the Teach Computing Curriculum, which provides a clear, structured pathway through the Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. It follows a spiral approach, where children revisit existing knowledge and skills and then build upon them incrementally. Weekly lessons build confidence, fluency and independence over time.
Online safety is taught through our Computing curriculum and is reinforced through our PSHE curriculum, giving children regular opportunities to discuss safe, respectful and responsible digital behaviour.
Our Computing provision ensures that children experience a variety of digital tools, platforms and devices. This includes opportunities to create digital content, explore coding, work collaboratively and solve problems using technology.
How do we know what children have learned?
We use a range of approaches to understand children’s progress in Computing, such as:
- Questioning
- Pupil learning reviews
- Learning walks
- Quizzing and retrieval practice
- Feedback
